Imported cashew nuts decreased by nearly 900,000 tons
The amount of imported cashew nuts decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2022, especially in the main market of Cambodia.
According to the latest information from the General Department of Customs, in the first half of September (September 1-15), the whole country imported 67,214 tons of cashew nuts, with a turnover of more than 90.5 million USD.
The results achieved in the first half of September brought the total amount of imported cashew nuts from the beginning of the year to September 15 to 1,556,210 tons, with a turnover of nearly $2.24 billion.
Notably, compared to the same period in 2021, the volume and turnover of cashew imports dropped sharply. Of which, the volume decreased by 876,895 tons, equivalent to a decrease of 36%; turnover decreased by 1.34 billion USD, equivalent to a decrease of 37.4%.
Regarding the market (updated at the end of August), Cambodia still leads with 697,268 tons, turnover reaching 1.06 billion USD. However, this result is still down sharply compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the volume decreased by nearly 400,000 tons, while the turnover decreased by about $ 770 million.
In 2021, the whole country imported 2,903,118 tons of cashew nuts, with a turnover of 4.24 billion USD, up 100.2% in volume and 134.6% in turnover compared to 2020.
In the last year, before the unusual increase in cashew imports, especially from the Cambodian market, the Customs office soon detected and put it into view and took measures to investigate, verify and handle.
Thereby, detecting a number of businesses with violations.
